Halifax County Chief District Court Judge Brenda Branch didn't come to preach to students at Chaloner Middle School Tuesday, but she wanted them to be more responsible for their actions. She talked about the importance of reading, attending school and not bullying others.
Roanoke Rapids senior A.J. Alston scratched on his first two jumps, and was in danger of missing the finals at the NCHSAA 2A track and field championships. Knowing all it takes is one, Alston advanced to the finals with his last jump in the preliminaries. Once he got to the finals, Alston jumped his way to the top of the medal stand.
More than 2,000 people showed up at Halifax/Northampton Regional Airport Saturday to enjoy the Wings and Wheels annual Fly-in. The event featured a first ever in the United States sky dive by Cyrus Ahyoug from an Allegro Light Sports Aircraft. Tuskegee Airman Grant Williams Sr. and Bill Robinson, who was a Prisoner of War for 7 1/2 years, also attended.
The Haliwa-Saponi Tribe, of Hollister, held its 47th Annual Pow-wow April 20-22. Tribe members and friends, both Native American and Native American from across the United States gathered in The Meadows to celebrate the Native heritage, customs and beliefs with great food, dancing, drumming and singing. This is the Grand Entry Dance, held April 20.
