Halifax County Interim Sheriff Wes Tripp and many others with the Halifax County Sheriff's Office took their oaths of office this morning.
Tripp's wife of 28 years, Karen Wilson Tripp, held the Bible. The couple’s son, Wes Tripp III, is attending the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and could not be there.
In talking about Halifax County Commissioners' decision to name him interim sheriff this week, Tripp said Monday was "numbing."
"I wasn't expecting it and didn't know anything about it until I started getting texts congratulating me, but didn't want to believe it until I spoke with Tony Brown or the commissioners," Tripp said.
He is looking forward to continuing retired Sheriff Jeff Frazier's work on jail expansion and building on what previous sheriffs have crafted.
"I am humbled to have taken the oath of office as Sheriff of Halifax County," Tripp said. "Our main focus will be to carry forward our work as professionals in the Halifax County Sheriff's Office and continue to move forward to have fair, just and equal law enforcement for the citizens of Halifax County."
