He had originally planned to hold a meet-and-greet at the Daughtry's home in Lasker. Tracy Daughtry, Chris's sister-in-law, said the event was moved due to worries about controlling the crowd, especially after the word of his appearance got out over the Internet. He will no longer be available to sign autographs.
Thousands of fans reportedly showed up when Chris made public appearances in McLeansville, where he lives with his wife and children, earlier this week. A planned appearance in Greensboro also had to be moved to a larger venue to accommodate more fans. “Chris has always been talented, but we didn't realize he was the fireball that he is,” Tracy said of her brother-in-law's popularity.
The event will now be held at Northeast Academy, Tracy Daughtry said Tuesday. Gates will open a 2 p.m. for parking and visitors will be asked to pay a $2 entrance fee to cover the cost of renting the school.
At 2:30 there will be ceremony where Chris will receive the key to the city and other accolades. Following the ceremony, or around 3 p.m., Chris will do a solo performance.
Over the past few months, the 26-year-old “rocker,” who was born in Roanoke Rapids and spent much of his youth in Lasker, has earned a huge fan following.
Since his controversial voting off of the show in early May, his music career has skyrocketed. He received an offer to front the rock band Fuel, which he reportedly turned down, and now his version of the Bon Jovi song “Wanted Dead of Alive” is at number 37 in the Billboard Top 40 pop chart.
