The Halifax County grand jury Monday returned true bills of indictment against Jade M. Shearin, Roderick Bluesky Mills, Steven Antonio Richardson and Robert O'Neil Williams in what was described at the time as a gang beating that resulted in the death of 39-year-old Gary Shearin.
The Halifax County Sheriff's Office said words were exchanged and a fight broke out in which Shearin, who was not related to Jade Shearin, was beaten and kicked in the face and head.
Shearin died two days after the Nov. 10, 2007, beating.
During the same party in which Shearin was beaten, Antonio Coley was charged with assault on a female of a 15-year-old girl and assault inflicting serious injury on 17-year-old Matt Turner. Turner and the 15-year-old were friends of the victim and were attending a going-away party when words were exchanged and the fight ensued.
Coley's case has not been before the grand jury yet.
On Monday, the grand jury also indicted Henry Artez Richardson for the first-degree murder of Charlie Donnell Pierce in the Lincoln Heights community last May.
Richardson spent eight months on the run following the murder before he was apprehended in Delaware in February.
Pierce was gunned down around 3:35 p.m., on May 2, 2007, as he played a card game outdoors with friends. An argument ensued minutes before the attack. Family members have said Pierce had nothing to do with it, that it was between other members of his family.
