ROANOKE RAPIDS - Marketing will be a key ingredient in the future success of The Roanoke Rapids Theatre and the venue's advisory committee is studying recommendations to attract people to its shows.

Monday, the Roanoke Rapids Theatre Advisory Committee's marketing sub-committee released its report suggesting the best ways to market the venue.

The sub-committee's deliberations ended with the following suggestions:

Marketing must target tourists passing through the region this summer. Marketing materials should be placed in restaurants and motels and theater schedule cards at individual tables or at cash registers.

It is also important, the report noted, to inform summer vacation renters on Lake Gaston of the schedule.

In order to generate revenue quickly, it has been suggested to promote discount coupon booklets. For instance, one can purchase a booklet of 10 tickets for $120. They could be targeted to senior citizens who are frequent attendees.

Another revenue-generating idea is to sell advertising in show programs.

A proven revenue-generating vehicle, the report notes, is membership and patron programs, as “All theaters use some form of these programs and there are hundreds of ways to put them together.” The report also notes that this helps defray some of the start-up costs.

The committee will study the report in greater detail at a future meeting.
