CROWELLS CROSSROADS - Louisburg High proved that there is strength in numbers Wednesday afternoon at Southeast Halifax High.

In a five-team meet, the deeper Warriors came out victorious, with both their boys and girls finishing ahead of the field.

The Louisburg boys scored 89 points to finish ahead of Southeast Halifax (56), Weldon (51), Northampton-East (48) and Northampton-West (18).

The Lady Warriors collected 100 points, followed by Northampton-West (58), Northampton-East (51), Southeast Halifax (21) and Weldon (10).

In the early events, the other schools jumped out ahead of the Warriors. The Trojans took the shot put, while the Chargers took the long jump thanks to the legs of twins Desmond and Demond Faulcon, who finished with jumps of 19'4 and 19'3, respectively. The Rams finished one, two and three in the triple jump as Rudy Bishop (36'3), Derreck Eley (35) and Donte Deloatch (33'10) took the top three spots for Northampton-East.

Eley then won the 110 high hurdles before Willie Bowman got the Hurricanes on track, winning the 100-meter dash ahead of C.J. McGuire with a time of 10:93.

The highly-anticipated match-up between the area's top two runners from a year ago (McGuire and Bowman) never took place because the two ran in different heats.

Once the distance races started, Louisburg pulled ahead of the pack, winning the 800, 1600, 3200, the 4 x 800 relay as well as the 4 x 200.

The Lady Warriors fared better in the field events than their male counterparts, winning the long jump and the triple jump.

Louisburg also swept all the long distance events. Northampton-West freshman Icess Booker was as good as advertised, winning the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes, remaining undefeated on the season.
