RRHS Sports Club meeting and cookout

The Roanoke Rapids High School Sports Club will meet Thursday, May 15 at 7 p.m., in the P.E. classroom. The Sports Club cookout will be held Thursday, May 22 at 7 p.m. at Hoyle Field.

Roanoke Rapids High awards night

Roanoke Rapids High School will hold its awards night on Tuesday, May 27 at 6 p.m., in the school auditorium.

Weldon Athletic Banquet

The Weldon High School annual Athletic Banquet will be held May 21, beginning at 6 p.m., in the multi-purpose room at the high school. The 2007-2008 athletes will be recognized for their athletic achievements. Admission is $6 per person.

Benefit golf tournament in Whitakers

The third annual Gene Watson Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, May 17 at the Hickory Meadows course in Whitakers. The 18-hole captain's choice event has a 9 a.m. shotgun start and the entry fee is $60 per golfer, which includes green and cart fees and lunch. A $5,000 putting contest will also be held. The tourney proceeds benefit the transplant surgery fund at the ECU School of Medicine. Hickory Meadows is located on N.C. Highway 33 via Exit 150 on Interstate 95. Summer Volleyball Camp

There will be a volleyball camp for girls in grades 5-12 this summer. The camp will run June 16-19. Please pick up registration information at T.J. Davis Recreation Center or Halifax Academy.

Cardiopulmonary sports memorabilia benefit auction

The 4th annual Cardiopulmonary Sports Benefit Auction, for Halifax Regional Medical Center, will be held May 24 at 1 p. m. at Halifax Healthlink at Becker Village Mall.

The benefit auction will feature many items donated by stars from every sport, both professional and college. Among the items are balls signed by both the 2007 American League and National League all-star teams, many NASCAR items, and other items donated by celebrities. ECSU coach to head Garysburg Basketball Camp

The Garysburg Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring its annual youth basketball camp for boys and girls ages 7-16.

The camp will be held at Northampton-West High in Gaston June 23-26. Camp hours are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p. m. and the cost is $45, which includes a snack and lunch each day.

T-shirts will be provided for each camper. Shawn Walker, coach of Elizabeth City State University's 2007 champions, will direct the camp. For more information, contact Garysburg Town Hall at (252) 536-2167.

Applications can be picked up at area schools and dropped off at the town hall.
