June arrived today, and with it the stretch run for many local government budgets.

Three of the largest budgets are the subjects of hearings and workshops this week.

Monday, the Northampton and Halifax county boards of commissioners will consider their budget proposals before taking a final vote later this month.

Halifax County is considering a $41.2 million budget. The budget does not include a property tax increase. The tax rate would remain at the current 68 cents per $100 valuation level. The plan does call for a 3.5 percent “salary market adjustment” for county employees.

The Halifax County budget hearing is set to begin at 11:10 a.m., according to the meeting announcement. The hearing is part of the board's regular session, which begins at 9:30 a.m., in the Historic Courthouse in Halifax.

Northampton County is considering a $22.175 million budget during its meeting at the county building in Jackson at 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Roanoke Rapids City Council will hold a work session at 5:15 p.m., Tuesday, at Lloyd Andrews City Meeting Hall to discuss its $13.26 million budget and a proposed 3-cent per $100 valuation increase in the property tax.
