Drowning victim's body recovered

ROANOKE RAPIDS - Emergency responders from across the Roanoke Valley returned to a pond off N.C. Highway 48 this morning and found the body of a missing drowning victim, according to Halifax County Sheriff Jeff Frazier.

Rheasville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Ricky Cobb said the incident occurred around 1 p.m., Sunday. Cobb declined to elaborate but said emergency responders would release a statement later today.
