Elect experience

My advice to the taxpayers of Roanoke Rapids is Š to elect people who have college degrees and experience in business and law to the City Council.

Disgusting

How appropriate we have a dead City Council and government that does nothing for the people, the dead Randy Parton Theatre and now a funeral director wants to buy it at more than 50 percent off Š What is wrong with our city leaders? Š This is disgusting.

Doesn't make sense

I am calling regarding the city leaders going to Chicago Š I don't know why the City Council and everyone is going to Chicago Š It would make more sense for the buyer to come here and see what he is buying.

Nothing left

In response to the new stores opening here: Where are we going to get the money to shop at the stores? By the time we pay our taxes, there won't be any left.

Pay the difference

If the mayor and city council sell the theater for half of what it costs, they should be made to pay the difference.

Laughing stock

Who are these people we elected in this city? All these people are traveling to Chicago to talk to a man about the purchase of the theater? The last time I looked the theater was located here in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. Wouldn't it make more sense for the man to travel here and see the property than the whole government traveling to Chicago Š Then of course maybe it is better they are out of town Š Goodness gracious we are the laughing stock of North Carolina and the entire country.

Pizza delivery?

As long as the mayor and council are going to Chicago, would they please bring back some good Chicago pizza?

Who pays?

Who is going to pay for the illegal immigrants to go to the community college? I have worked all my life so my children could go to college Š Now we learn they don't qualify for a Pell Grant Š Who is going to pay for the immigrants?

Warning

I am tired of hearing about Sen. Barack Obama Š If the liberal press keeps working hard enough they may get him elected then you will have higher taxes and a depression Š People you need to wake up Š What about experience?

Contradictory

Regarding the mood of our city, I found the editor's comment to be contradictory Š If he believes in the city why does he publish so much negativity about what the city, the chamber of commerce and the Uptown people are trying to do.

Editor's note: We have and continue to support the positive efforts of the city, the chamber and the Uptown/Downtown businesses. We do however have a responsibility to report the news even when it is negative or concerns problems we would all rather have never happened.

Respect

You can't demand my respect. You have to earn it.

More on the subject

Regarding respect: Maybe this person should go back and consider Martin Luther King Jr.'s comments, “You don't demand respect; you earn respect.”
