Trip to Christmas show
The Faison Senior Center will sponsor a fun day trip to the Carolina Premium Outlets to the matinee at the American Music Jubilee Christmas Show on Thursday, Nov. 20. Library changes hours
The Roanoke Rapids Public Library will be open to the public on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The library is located at 319 Roanoke Ave., and offers resources and information services for educational, recreational and cultural growth to the citizens of Roanoke Rapids and the surrounding region. For more information, call (252) 533-2890.
Fall and Christmas craft fair
The Adventurers of Lake Gaston Baptist Church will hold a fall and Christmas craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Church Family Life Center. All booths for the fair are full with some crafters coming from as far away as Greenville.

Adventurers schedule meeting for Nov. 15
The Adventurers of Lake Gaston Baptist Church will not have an October meeting because of an Oct. 8 trip to Lancaster, Pa. The next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 15. At that time, the fall and Christmas craft fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Farmers market to be open until Nov. 19
The Roanoke Valley Farmers Market will remain open until Nov. 19. Fresh local produce, baked goods, breads, cakes, pies and preserves will be available on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Got yard sale and flea market items? Marine Corps League being formed

Yard sale and auction
Galatia Baptist Church will hold its annual missions yard sale and auction on Saturday, Oct. 11, rain or shine. The yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., with ham biscuits, hot dogs drinks and goodies for sale. Also, a Christmas gift shop will be open all day. A barbecue supper will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m., cooked by the Kelly Davis crew for $7. Eat in or take out. The auction will begin at 7 p.m. with more than 100 items offered.
Basket making retreat is Oct. 24-26
The Scotland Neck Business Association will sponsor a basket making retreat Oct. 24-26. Handmade North Carolina Baskets instructor Joni-Dee Ross will teach quarterly at the senior center on Main Street in Scotland Neck until the future art center becomes a reality. Crafters will begin the classes and progress to Nantucket Baskets at the intermediate level. Ross is one of the few instructors in the nation who teaches the craft of making Nantucket Baskets. The first retreat will allow crafters to make basic baskets or make a special request with the instructor to bring more advanced basket kits. Students may take one, two or three days and take home their completed basket the same day. Nantucket Baskets will be taught by the third retreat as students progress.

One day registration is $35, which includes light breakfast and lunch; two days is $50, which includes light breakfast and lunch; and three days is $85, which includes light breakfast and lunch and dinner Saturday evening. Registration fees are paid to the Scotland Neck Business Association and basket kits are purchased directly from the instructor at each class. Basket kits are approximately $25 to $30 each, depending on size. Several baskets have been selected for the first retreat including knitting basket, casserole basket, soap bottle holder and work basket.
Community Arts Day
Community Arts Day will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Cultural and Wellness Center in Jackson.
The Northampton County Cultural Arts Committee will sponsor artist Bryant Holsenbeck for a week-long residency with the community. To celebrate her visit, the community arts day will include unveiling a piece(s) of art created by community members for display at the Cultural and Wellness Center; an art contest for middle and high school students; displaying of local artists’ work; and musical entertainment.
Holsenbeck has been collecting “stuff” and transforming it into art for more than a decade. “Americans create more garbage than any other culture.” She wants people to think, when they view her art, about the “stuff” we use and throw away. Trip to State Fair

Trip to Charleston planned
A chartered bus trip with the Sunshine Travel Club to Charleston, S.C., is planned for Dec. 5-7. The trip will include a tour of one of America’s oldest working plantations, tour of Charleston, dinner and cruise on the Spirit of Carolina. The group will stay in the heart of the Historic District in Charleston, within walking distance of the famous open market. There will be much more to see and do. Women’s prayer meeting
The Roanoke Valley Women’s Prayer Squad will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 6, at Rosemary Baptist Church, 936 Jackson St., Roanoke Rapids. The prayer meetings are held four times a year at different churches throughout the Roanoke Valley. This is an opportunity for women from different Christian churches in the Roanoke Valley to come together to pray for God’s blessings over our churches, homes, schools and businesses. Emergency food assistance
Northampton County residents who are low or fixed income may qualify to receive food given out at the Big Heart Pantry located at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 1408 River Road, Henrico. Eligibility is determined on income or emergency need. For assistance, applicants may apply from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturdays, at Cedar Grove.
Trip to the Apple Harvest Festival
The Faison Senior Center will sponsor a one-day trip to the Apple Harvest Festival at Drumheller’s Orchard on Saturday, Oct. 18. The cost is $48, which includes transportation on a deluxe motor coach and a day full of fun with entertainment of country music, apple sling shot, hayrides and purchasing fresh picked apples, crafts, good foods, pumpkins and many other things to do. Halifax County agricultural fair
Now is the time to make plans to enter the 52nd annual Halifax-Northampton County Fair, planned for Oct. 21-25. One-hundred dollars will be awarded to the best educational booth in the following categories: Youth group, adult group, 4-H or volunteer group.
If you grow a crop or a plant, can a fruit or a vegetable,
bake a cake or a loaf of bread, you can enter the County Fair.
If you sew, quilt, or knit, make a basket or a ceramic pot, draw a picture or take a photograph, you can enter the County Fair.
There are classes for adults and juniors, as young as 3 to 5 years of age. Prize money and Ribbons will be awarded to the best exhibits.

RRHS Class of 1988 to hold reunion

NCHS-East Class of ’74 plans reunion
Northampton County High School-East Class of 1974 is making plans to have a class reunion. American Legion Post 38
American Legion Post 38 will hold its next meeting Monday, Oct. 6, at its post on American Legion Road. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., followed by the business meeting. All members are urged to attend.
Plate sale
The male ministry of Smith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Enfield will hold a plate sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, at Lowe’s Grocery Parking lot in Enfield. They will serve chicken, fish, string beans, coleslaw, potatos, rolls and dessert. Prices range from $6 to $7. All donations will go toward the church building fund.

After 5 Club to meet
The After 5 Club, affiliated with Stonecroft Ministries, will present “Bountiful Autumn” from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 21, at david’s restaurant ($10.25 inclusive.) E.V. Rally set for Nov. 7-8
The 12th annual Electric Vehicle Rally will be held Nov. 7-8, at Northampton County High School-East. There will a circuit event, autocross, trouble-shooting, pit crew competition and a range event. The event will take palce off of Highway 158 in Old Tavern, N.C. 750 NCHS-East Road, Conway NC 27820. Song Writers Contest
The Dream Acres Music Festival will hold a singer/songwriter competition. Each applicant will have the chance to be chosen as one of five artists selected to compete and play on stage at the festival.
The winner will receive a prize package from D’Addario Strings Company as well as the opportunity to have an entire CD of their music digitally produced, compliments of Twilight Productions. The winner will also be invited to come back to the following festival to perform on the main stage.
