Loud pipes

To the person concerned about loud pipes on motorcycles: Get a life. Stop being jealous because people are enjoying living theirs. There is nothing wrong with loud pipes or people cutting their grass or having a power washer going. If you can’t handle it, go somewhere where you can have quiet or get some earplugs.

Pet help

When the animal hospitals in this town close at 5 p.m., you have to take your injured or sick animal to Wilson, which is70 miles away for care ... I can’t see why one of these hospitals can’t stay open for emergencies.

Northampton woes

Concerning the Northampton County Board member who doesn’t have their children attending Northampton County Schools … I don’t believe that person should serve on the board … If the school system isn’t good enough for their children why is good enough for them to serve on the board?

Another thought

If a liberal is lying when his lips are moving, George Bush must be a liberal — his lips are moving.

Vets on call

I think it is a crying shame we don’t have an on-call emergency veterinarian service in town … How would you feel if you had to take your dying animal 70 miles to get help?

Who’s to blame?

Regarding the bailout: George Bush inherited the situation. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were forced to make these high-risk mortgages … Many of the people didn’t have any money invested in these mortgages … The group ACORN was responsible for pushing this bad policy ... And it was President William Jefferson Clinton who signed the bill encouraging these mortgages.

Explanation

I am the person who originally called in about taxes and votes — I said I don’t think people should have the right to vote if they don’t pay income taxes … I never said property taxes … I think people who work and contribute to this country should be able to vote. Why should people who do not work and do not pay taxes have a say so as to where my tax money goes?

Praise

I would like to commend Halifax County for the good work it is doing with its Web site and the good job being done with the Board of Elections.

Where’s the answer?

The mayor had his meeting with Charter and nothing has happened … What a shame!

" Once again the Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad has made a fool out of its image. Last week there was a great article in the paper explaining the River City Extrication Competition that was to be sponsored by RVRS. This was a great opportunity to make a good name for this once great organization, but on Saturday night at the Sugarland concert several members were seen parading around in Tee shirts with the River City Extrication Competition logo and the Roanoke Valley Rescue “WE RACE THE REAPER” logo with several alcoholic beverages and obviously intoxicated. I do not have a problem with anyone wanting to have a good time and unwind with their friends and co-workers, but there is a place and time for that and in a public area with 30,000 people was probably not the best location to do this. One would thing with all the financial and moral troubles that the organization is having, management would have their personnel walking a tight line to look good to the general public. "

" I think there are some board members doing more serious things than sending their child to a charter school. Maybe you should look into that. "

    " About noisy motor cycles.
Thanks to the bikers who are curtious and respect their neighbors. Those who do not respect their neighbors by gunning their engines, thereby waking sleeping babies and late shift workers,
should be fined for noise ordanance violations. Considerate neighbors will use their lawn mowers and ect.,in a maner that does not bother others. I know of many bikers who know how to be considerate, and do not bother their neighbors. If the bike will not idle at a stop without goosing the engine, consider a tune up. "

" To the lady that got good care at Roanoke Animal, I am happy for her but wait until 7:30 pm at night and try to get someone in town for your dog, the soundoff is right, you have to go to Wilson for the on call. The two hospitals here use to work with each other on call but i guess our pets are not worthy enough. "

" I wanted to say something positive about Roanoke Animal Hospital. My dog became ill and had to see a vet suddenly. I called my regular vet's office and they could not see her. However, the vet at Roanoke Animal Hospital stayed in order to see my dog. The vet and technicians were very caring and took good care of my dog. "

" If it were put in the paper that College
gets $600,000 to help young white males, we would be called racist. I am all for
helping not only young men but young women as well, regardless of color, get a better education. My question is, who is going to give help to the white American males who need help? Black males are not the only ones who have to drop out of college because of financial problems. If all are to be treated equally, help should be given to everyone, not a chosen few. I would like to know who is on the Freedom To Learn
Committee and how do they determine who is in need of help.
What kind of message is this sending to our white students. Racial issues will never stop as long as we radicals, who make one sided decisions. "

" If the housing mess happened under Clinton why did it take so long to collapse. All Democratics wanted were fair lending laws.
Nobody told any bank to make risky loans. That was caused by Bush, Republicans and McCains financial advisor Phil Graham. It was their deregulation of the mortgage industry and easy credit that caused a huge demand for housing that drove up the prices artificially. Graham will be in a McCain Administration. "
