Miss Mitchell becomes the bride of Raymond Lynn Ponton Jr. on July 19

Sherika Shevon Mitchell and Mr. Raymond Lynn Ponton Jr. exchanged wedding vows on Saturday, July 19, 2008, at the Mudcastle Family Center in Garysburg.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Shearin of Garysburg. She is the granddaughter of Goldie Mitchell of Creeksville and Lillian Shearin of Richmond, Va.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Ponton Sr. of Pleasant Hill. He is the grandson of Leona Ponton of Seaboard and the late William Ponton, Lucille White and George White.

The ceremony was officiated by the Rev. G. Green.

Jashawn Peele and Terry Ray Boyd provided wedding music.

Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride chose for her wedding a white strapless gown accented with pearls.

Ebony Johnson of Charlotte, best friend of the bride, served as maid of honor. She wore a lavender strapless gown. Quasha Mitchell Mitchell, cousin of the bride, served as the bridesmaid. She wore a lavender gown with a lavender scarf.

Ashley Deloatch, cousin of the bride, served as flower girl. Ring bearer was Jaques Shearin, nephew of the bride.

Curtis Boone, cousin of the bridegroom, served as the best man. Antoine Shearin, brother of the bride, served as the groomsman.

Serving as mistress of ceremonies was Shelia Green.

Program hostesses were Patrina Deloatch and Destiny Short, aunt and cousin of the bride. Serving as usher was Antwan Bullock, brother-in-law of the bridegroom.

The couple honeymooned for a week at Myrtle Beach, S.C., and now reside in Garysburg.

The bride graduated from Northampton County High School-West in 2004. She received a certificate in phlebotomy from Halifax Community College in 2005. She also received a certificate in pharmacy technology from Penn Foster Career School in 2006. She is currently attending John Casablanca’s Career and Modeling School in Raleigh and will also continue her education in human services to get a degree at HCC. She is employed with Emporia Medical Associates.

The bridegroom graduated from Northampton County High School-East in 2002. He graduated from Sherills University of Barber and Cosmetology in 2003, where he received his master license in barber. He is employed with Georgia-Pacific and Tight Edge Barber Shop.

The wedding ceremony was followed by a reception at the Mudcastle Family Center, with music by DJ Steve and a special song by Teresa Bullock, sister of the bridegroom. Carolina Restaurant of Roanoke Rapids provided catering. The cake designer was Shelia Ponton, mother of the bridegroom. Serving as photographer was Mr. Hale of Roanoke Rapids and the flower designer and wedding planner was Shelia Green, also of Roanoke Rapids.
