Tattoo & welfare

How can a person have a tattoo up and down their arms that cost money and shop with a welfare card?

Needs help

I want to know what is wrong with Social Security? I have been out of work for eight years with numerous health problems. The doctors say I am not able to work. Social Security says I am and denies my benefits ... I worked for 17 years before I got sick. Any advice?

Busybodies

I would like to Sound off! about busybodies in the church ... Busybodies love to stir up stuff ... They love to get on the telephone and tell everyone else and before you know it the problem is blown up ... Please stop doing the devil’s work. Get on you knees and pray for that person ... Start doing the Lord’s work.

Propaganda

Fox News is a Republican propaganda network.

Missing table

Will the person or persons who inadvertently removed the steel table beside the driveway next to the road on Boling Road, kindly return it, please?

Reversed?

I bet the NAACP would have been screaming “racism” if the headlines had read, “College gets $600,000 to help young white men.” It’s amazing how quiet they are when the roles are reversed.

Wait until the deadline

I don’t know where some of the people are getting all their information on the Gatling proposal ... They must be a lot closer to some of the council than I am ... Either way we need to wait until all of the information is made public before making up on minds ... When its all public look it all over and make up your own mind ...

Slow down

There is too much speeding and cars going too fast on Highway 125 and Smith Church Road ... The speed limit needs to be reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph.

Wrong decision

A few months ago a young man was robbed and gunned down for now reason ... The motive was to take what didn’t belong to them ... I want the world to know the Halifax County courts let the suspects in this case walk ... This is wrong ... Your child or my child should be next ... Call the governor, write Washington, D.C. something must be done ... Are supposed to act like this is OK ... Don’t let the court or the murderers get away with this.

Praise

A big thank you to the guys who empty the trash containers on the roads in the county! They are always courteous and do a job that makes life better for the rest of us.

Thoughts on Washington

Kay Hagen has doubled our state debt, or so say the ads. She balanced budgets by borrowing thus adding to the debt. Liddy Dole has doubled our national debt, that we know. She has not balanced any budgets. Is this the best we can do? Is there no one in the state of North Carolina who can balance a budget? Listening to the ads no one who is running is competent to do the job. Can’t they find work anywhere else? All you have to do to qualify for public office is to be incompetent in anything you have ever done. Looking at the Congress we all know this to be pretty true.

Fear of consequences?

I applaud the effort that has been demonstrated in getting our voter registration numbers increased. I applaud the efforts of those who choose to exercise their constitutional right to vote and voice their opinion. What galls me is what happens after this grand voter turnout and the quest is settled, all of this effort and energy will deflate like a popped balloon and a large number of the ones who have worked so hard to get all these people registered to vote will go back to the status quo of sitting on their behind and look for the government to give out more and more and more and more. I have to work for what I have and I am tired of paying for people who think that the world owes them a living because of something that happened 100 years ago. Neither of the candidates in this race for the presidency can do anymore that what our Congress allows them to do. It is time the people get off their haunches and show Congress and the President who put them in office and insist that they do what they were elected to do — work for the best interest of all of the people which does not mean to keep on bailing out and giving away. Reintroduce the word respect and the teachings that respect is earned and not a right and let there be severe consequences when that respect is not present or is violated. Put God and prayer back into our schools, our daily lives. These are just a few issues that I would like to see as much effort put into as has been put into our voter registration drive and if you are looking for it to come from either of the candidates running ... I don’t think so. They are not strong enough or willing to face the consequences of their political fate if they were to truly begin to address either one of these issues.

" To the common racist comment regarding helping young black men attend college!! Whats wrong with that? I see no use in wasting it on someone who's going to just get it and leave school before dropout date..alot of young black men need this extra boost of help!Maybe they didn't grow up with a silver spoon in there mouth or maybe they didn't have parents or a parent to encourage education!I feel it's needed- i know several young black men willing to work and better themselves but if not given opportunity how is this possible, its not even easy for them to get student loans sometimes!! So you tell me why would the NAACP say anything negavtive toward this if the money is being used in a good manner? Get over the racism, what are you going to say when OBAMA becomes the next president? HE's BLACK "

" There are several comments here that are very true. How can you afford tatoos but get food stamps. There are a lot of people that have nothing wrong with them, but receive disability. I've worked and now need it, but the funding is not there or no one cares. Politicians are who you think they are. They take care of those who put them in office. How many times have you donated money for someone to get into office? If they tell the truth about what will happen when they are in office, who will vote for them? Remember your high school election promises. Longer lunches. No homework on Friday. We fall for the same lies, just displayed a little differently. Last thing. Would you spend $100 Million dollars campaining to get a job that pays $400 Thousand? Isn't that backwards? "

" I would just like to say first of all, that Halifax County is a wonderful place to live compared to some of the other areas I have lived in, I have a couple of concerns tht our County, commissioners, and Halifax county as a whole we do not do enough to keep our youth off the streets, I live in a rural area, Hollister North Carolina, there are always young people hanging on the corner, there is nothing here for them to do, as much as we are paying in county property taxes and so forth, I think someone should get off of their do nothings and start some type of programs to better educate our children, parents start educaitng our children in Halifax county about Aids viruses sexually transmitted diseases.Morales, having respect for others, let's give these young people something to look forward to in our future for Halifax County is a great place to live, and could be better if we all do our part. Churches and organizations and County commissioners, Don't you hear the cry from our young people who are getting locked up for drug crimes, shootings, and gangs? "

" if anyone sees someone who is buying alcohol or tobacco products with their EBT food stamp card they might want to report it because it's ILLEGAL! "

" If you would have read the comment I said that the people bought their beer & wine. I know it is illegal to buy alcohol products with food stamps. I was saying that if you can afford to drink, then you can afford to buy your own food. It is not fair that I have to work everyday to get the little bit that I have & others abuise the system. It's not fair to us tax payers! "

" About busy bodies in the church. If he was doing what he was suppose to be doing, people wouldn't have anything to talk about. But the pastor got caught in the wrong place at the right time. actions speak louder than words. Stop giving us busy bodies so much to talk about. "

" legally you're not allowed to buy alcohol or tabacco products with food stamps. sometimes people have emergencies and need help. the problem with this little town is that people don't know what it means to mine their own business. "

" Every person that uses a "food stamp card" as you called it, it not just food stamps. Some cards are money cards.
Did you ever stop and think that maybe that person had the tattoo before they got that card? Some people have no life of their own so they try to run everyone elses. MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!!! "

you go busybodies...... wrote on Oct 15, 2008 7:41 AM:

" Regarding the statement someone wrote about "busybodies" in church.... maybe if people didn't have things to hide it wouldn't be such an issue... maybe you should get all the facts first then and only then could you possibly make a comment about busybodies.... sounds to me like a nerve was hit, sometimes the truth is in fact ugly, therefore people need to hide it.. if you are "doing the right thing" then of all places church is where you would feel the most welcome.. if someone needs to come up and TELL you they are a "good Christian" look at their motives.....bet they are not on their knees praying for forgiveness... maybe you should spend more time getting the facts about issues rather than complaining about how people need to mind their own business "

" I don't really have a problem with the tattooed people using the food stamp card. I have a problem with the ones who buy cases of beer & wine & then buy their potato chips & sodas with their food stamps. If you can sell enough drugs to buy the beer, then buy your own food!! I am tired of paying for it. "
