Snow was reported early Friday from Boone to Lexington, Greensboro, Chapel Hill and the Raleigh-Durham area. A two-hour delay was ordered by public schools in Guilford and Forsyth counties.
The National Weather Service said the snow won’t last long, and what does fall could leave a light dusting on grassy and elevated surfaces. Western portions could see up to a half-inch of snow.
A strong cold front will create gusty winds through Friday afternoon. Authorities are advising residents in central North Carolina that burning dry leaves is not recommended.
Highs will only reach the 40s on Friday and Saturday with lows in the 20s.
