Miss Coates becomes the bride of Mr. Robert Lee Knight

Regina Coates of Seaboard and Robert Lee Knight of Courtland, Va., exchanged wedding vows during an outdoor  ceremony at 5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Tim Richardson, 845 Peanut Market Road, Seaboard.

The bride is the daughter of James T. Coates Sr. and Annie Lee Coates. She is the granddaughter of the late Ellis and Lottie Joyner of Jackson and the late Jim and Mattie Coates of Seaboard. She is the goddaughter of the late Joe and Mammie Valentine of Seaboard.

The bridegroom is the son of the late Marion Taylor of Philadelphia and the late Robert Lee Knight of Norfolk, Va. He is the grandson of the late Issac Knight and the late Nettie Knight Boone.

Minister Purnell Edwards, pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, performed the nuptial ceremony.

A program of wedding music was provided by Carmel Harris of Margarettsville.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore an ivory V-line satin gown with long floral embroidered sleeves. The gown featured a cathedral-length train with beaded floral embroidery.

For her headpiece, the bride chose a tiara of rhinestones, crystals and pearls, and a white sheer fingertip-length veil. She carried a bouquet of ivory daisies with sunflowers adorned with ivory ribbon.

Linda Richardson, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor and Evelyn Winborne, sister of the bride, served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Stafney Branch and Melissa Richardson, nieces of the bride, Marie Turner, cousin of the bride, Stephanie Wheeler of Woodland, Tiffany Brown of Jackson, Tracey Richardson of Charlotte, Veronica Knight, daughter-in-law of the bride, Lashika Stepheson of Jackson, Kim Lewis of Roanoke Rapids, Kim Hux of Roanoke Rapids and Edith Coates, sister of the bride.

Serving as flower girls were Deantra M. Webb and TaTali M. Webb.

Roger Knight, son of the bridegroom, served as best man. Groomsmen were James T. Coates Sr., Napoleon Jerome Coates and Larry Coates, brothers of the bride, Colin Warren of Seaboard, Fred Robinson of Garysburg, Ernest Williams III, Coatney R. Williams and Robert Branch III, sons of the bride, and Michael Winborne and Timothy Richardson Jr., nephews of the bride.

Ms. Clara Wilson of Seaboard served  as mistress of ceremonies.

Guest book and program attendants were Linda Joyner and Samuel Branch Jr., niece and nephew of the bride. Photography was by Gene Woodard and his wife, Cheryl, and serving as videographer was Brian Hux.

The bride graduated from Gumberry High School in 1980. She got her certificate for nursing from Halifax Community College in 1982. She is employed by Guardian Care of Roanoke Rapids.

The bridegroom is employed by VanCleff Trucking out of Waverly, Va.

A reception was held at the home of Stafney Branch, in which her niece Betty Coates served as hostess. The cake was made by Wal-Mart and the reception was catered by Jean Joyner of Conway. The decoration was created by Bettie Coates and her fiancé, also nephew Samuel Branch Jr. and niece Dynika Branch. Flowers for the bridal couple were created by Bettie Coates. Special thanks goes out to the Bargain House of Roanoke Rapids, also the 99 cent store in Becker Village Mall, Guardian Care of Roanoke Rapids and the Rev. Purnell Edwards and his wife.

The bride’s sister and brother-in-law hosted an after-rehearsal dinner at 845 Peanut Market Road, Seaboard. The couple chose this time to present their attendants with gifts.

A floating miscellaneous bridal shower was held on Aug. 7, at Guardian Care of Roanoke Rapids, given by co-workers of the bride.
