CONWAY—  The pre-kindergarten classes of Donna Davis and Angela Whitaker of Willis Hare Elementary School visited Judy’s Pumpkin Farm in Conway recently.

The trip marked the culmination of their lesson on various types of pumpkins and gourds as well as pumpkin growth. Willis Hare’s principal, Barbara Stephenson, encourages field trips that enhance students’ knowledge and understanding of classroom lessons and this trip did just that. During their visit, students saw all types of pumpkins and even got a chance to take a pumpkin home.

Both classes enjoyed watching the cows, turkeys, chickens, roosters, rabbits and feeding the goats and pigs. In addition, the students took a hayride tour of the soybean and cotton crops. They also got a chance to see various farm equipment.

Once the tour was complete, the students played “old-fashioned” outdoor games and listened to great harvest stories told by the farm’s owners, who were most gracious to the staff members, students, and parents who accompanied the students on the trip.
