Ruth Belch McDaniel

WOODLAND — Mrs. Ruth Belch McDaniel, 90, died at the Guardian Care Nursing Home in Ahoskie on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008.

She was the daughter of the late Mary E. Copeland Belch and Jesse Belch of Rich Square.  She was born on March 25, 1918.  She graduated from the Rich Square High School in 1935 and continued her education at East Carolina Teacher’s College, receiving her B.A. degree in elementary education in 1939.  She taught in Northampton County where she retired in 1979 after 31 years.  She was a member of the Woodland Baptist Church.  She was also a member of the Halifax-Northampton Retired School Personnel and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Roger L. McDaniel, Sr., three sisters; Jessie Helen Belch, Bernice B. Benthall of Rich Square, Hazel B. Pate of Angier, three brothers; Vernon C. Belch, Robert L. Belch of Rich Square and Felton E. Belch of Castalia.

Survivors include her three sons, Dr. Roger L. McDaniel, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Raleigh, Jesse S. McDaniel and his wife Beverly of Raleigh and Robert C. McDaniel of Raleigh, two grandchildren, Jonathan and Brenda McDaniel of Raleigh, one sister, Myrtle B. Hedgepeth of Castalia and very good friends, Jessie Mae Bryant and Clara Barnes.

Graveside services will be conducted on today, Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square, with the Rev. Marcus Pond officiating.

The family will receive friends at Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square on today, Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 from noon to 1:30 p.m., prior to the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Woodland Baptist Church, PO Box 444, Woodland NC  27897.
