Lloyd Nelson Dowtin

ROANOKE RAPIDS — Lloyd Nelson Dowtin, son of Annie Jones Dowtin and the late Merl Hope Dowtin, Sr., was born on Nov. 8, 1945, in Halifax County, North Carolina, and departed this earthly life on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids, N.C.

During his youth, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and joined the Shearin’s Chapel Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids.  After receiving his formal education in the Halifax County Public School System, he served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Linda Boyd.  This union was blessed with two daughters, Ayanda Dowtin Meachem and Kia Jihan Dowtin.

In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Leon Dowtin, Sr.

Those surviving to forever treasure the memory of his life are his wife, Linda B.  Dowtin of the home; his daughters, Kia J. Dowtin of Raleigh, and Ayanda D. Meachem (Anthony L.) of Winterville; two grandsons, Xavier M. Meachem and Barak A. Meachem also of Winterville; his mother, Annie J. Dowtin of Roanoke Rapids; his brother, Merl Hope Dowtin, Jr. (Belvia) of Roanoke Rapids; two sisters, Sandra Fleming (Edward) of Roanoke Rapids, and Doris Dowtin of Greensboro; five aunts, two uncles, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at Shearin’s Chapel Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids.  The pastor, Rev.  Lynne J. Bradley will officiate and burial will follow in the Boyd Family Cemetery in Littleton.  The body will repose at Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton on Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, until 8:30 p.m.  Visit www.robinsonfuneralhomenc.com to post condolences.
