WILLISTON — Miss Selma Odell Pritchard, age 97, of Williston, NC and formerly of Rocky Mount, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008 at the home of her niece, Annette Cruse.

Miss Pritchard was born Sept. 24, 1911, in Northampton County, the daughter of the late Robert and Nettie Pritchard. She was predeceased by her sisters, Willie Pritchard Matthews, Lillian Pritchard Whitley and Bobbie Pritchard Matthews and her brother, Glenn Pritchard.

Miss Pritchard was a graduate of East Carolina Teacher’s College, now ECU, and received her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She taught in the Weldon and Rocky Mount schools and was supervisor of schools for many years in the Craven County School System.

Survivors include a sister, Iola Pritchard of Rocky Mount; a niece Annete Cruse and her husband Boyce of Williston; her nephews, Thurman Glen Pritchard and his wife Alice of Virginia Beach, Va., and Tom Whitley and his wife Terry of Fayettevile.

The family would like to thank her caregivers, Alma Guthrie and Laura Spadero, for their kindness and wonderful care and also thank Hospice of Carteret County.

Funeral services will be held, Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at 11 a.m., at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Hill and Rev. Roger Jessup officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 326, Conway, NC 27820 or the Anglican Orthodox Church, 315 Walnut Street, Statesville NC 28677.

Arrangements are being handled by Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids.
