‘12 Days of Christmas’ at Sylvan Heights

Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park & Eco-Center in Scotland Neck will present “12 Days of Christmas” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. now through Wednesday, Dec. 24. Collecting toys

Alan Vester Nissan, in conjunction with the Halifax County Department of Social Services, will collect new, unwrapped toys for foster care and underprivileged children. Donations may be dropped off at 320 Becker Drive. To make arrangements for donation pick up, call Kenneth Turner at 537-1041. The final collection date is this Friday, Dec. 12.

Day trip to Christmas Home Tour

The Adventurers of Lake Gaston will do a day trip this Friday, Dec. 12 to the Christmas Home Tour at Edenton. Cost of the trip is $58, including a luxury motor coach, tickets to the Home Tour, lunch at Golden Coral and tip for the bus driver. Garysburg Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting

The Town of Garysburg is accepting entries for the annual Christmas parade to be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 13. Any civic, church group, school, business, antique car or tractor are encouraged to participate. Bands, floats, classic cars, motorcycles, horses, homecoming courts, fire trucks, etc., are welcome. Call the town hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 536-2167 for entry forms or information. Deadline for entries is this Thursday, Dec. 11. The Town of Garysburg along with the women’s fellowship of Roanoke Salem Baptist Church will hold its annual tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m., this Friday, Dec. 12. Christmas carols and refreshments will be at the Town Hall after the lighting.

Jackson Christmas Parade

Come to Jackson at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 13, for the annual Jackson Christmas Parade sponsored by the Jackson Women’s Club. There will be food, festivities, fun and Santa Claus, too.  Any civic, church, school, business or organization is invited to participate. Town of Halifax Seeks Parade Participants

The Town of Halifax is holding its annual Christmas parade at 3 p.m., this Saturday, Dec. 13, along King Street, in conjunction with the other events of “Christmas in Halifax.” Events for the Christmas in Halifax include: Revolutionary encampment at the Tap Room Tavern with living history activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; soup and sandwich luncheon at Halifax United Methodist Church on King Street from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; hot cider and cookies, crafts show and sale, holiday cooking demonstration in the Visitor Center at 25 Saint David St., from noon until 4 p.m.; Christmas tea hosted by the Halifax Garden Club at Eugenia House, 127 S. Dobbs St., from 1 to 3 p.m.; and the Visitor Center Open will offer tours of historic buildings from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guided and self-guided tours are also available.

Country Christmas Music Jubilee

The Roanoke Valley Country Music Jubilee will present its Christmas show at 7:30 p.m., this Friday and Saturday, Dec. 12-13, at The Centre at Halifax Community College. Call The Centre at (252) 538-4336 or log onto www.halifaxcc.edu for more information.

Christmas on the Canal

The Roanoke Canal Museum will host Christmas on the Canal, a day of food, fun, and music for the entire family, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., this Saturday, Dec. 13. “The Polar Express” is the theme.  Musical entertainers such as Chambergrass, Pastor David Smith, the Roanoke Rapids High School Jazz Ensemble and the Chaloner Middle School Jingle Bell Jackets are all welcomed favorites and play holiday songs throughout the day.  While music fills the air, museum staff serve mountains of homemade Christmas cookies, candies and treats made especially for the event by volunteers.  At noon, kids of all ages are invited to frost and decorate their own cookies and watch a favorite Christmas classic.  Admission is free.  Donations are accepted for take-home bags of holiday treats. ‘A Christmas Carol’

Calling Angels will sponsor its annual Broadway Christmas play, “A Christmas Carol,” based upon Charles Dickens classic at 4 p.m., this Saturday, Dec. 13, at the William R. Davie Middle School Auditorium. Come out and join Scrooge, Cratchit, three ghostly spirits and Tiny Tim from the “world of Victorium England.” This will be an afternoon of entertainment for the whole family to enjoy during the holiday season. Calling Angels volunteers will be calling the community, offering sponsorship packages to attend the event. Proceeds from the sale of tickets benefit foster children in the Roanoke Valley by providing warm winter clothing and a Christmas gift. There will be door prizes for attendees donated by area businesses. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $8 by calling (252) 535-2508, (252) 532-6522 or (252) 532-5056. Tickets will be sold on the day of the show for $10.

Christmas in the Park

Christmas in the Park will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 14, at Centennial Park, corner of 7th Street and Roanoke Avenue. Featured will be Santa, wagon rides, tours of the smoke house, baked goods, chili for sale by the Roanoke Rapids Fireman’s Club, crafts for sale by the Roanoke Valley Senior Citizens Association, entertainment, and craft projects for children.

The Temptations @ RR Theatre

A Christmas concert featuring Chambergrass, a bluegrass and classical duo, and Unfinished Business, a jazz band, beginning at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 18, at The Roanoke Rapids Theatre. The Temptations Review show will then be presented. Tickets are $47, $57 and $67 and be purchased from Ticketmaster or call (252) 532-5705.

Lakeland Singers Christmas Concert

The Lakeland Theatre Company will present the Lakeland Singers at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, as they ring in the holidays with a blend of traditional and modern Christmas favorites. Be sure to put a song in your heart for the holidays with this final event of the Lakeland season. Holiday Bash

The second annual Northwest High School Alumni Association will hold an alumni holiday bash at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, at Kirkwood Adams Community Center in Roanoke Rapids. Boys and Girls Club Stew Sale

The Boys and Girls Club of Halifax County will hold its second annual Brunswick stew sale this Friday, Dec. 12. Pickup up until noon will be at First Christian Church, 836 Roanoke Ave., Roanoke Rapids. Pickup from noon until 7 p.m., will be at the Boys and Girls Club, 116-C West 3rd St., Roanoke Rapids.
