4-H Club gets donation to fund Christmas service project

In spite of the dire financial state, one local entrepreneur and recording artist maintains a commitment to give back to the community.  Dr. Bernice Lee, founder and president of the Garden of Eden Foundation and the CEO of Roanoke Valley Special Services, both located in Garysburg, donated $500 to the Northampton County High School-East’s 4-H Club to finance its Christmas service project.

The Garden of Eden Foundation is a non-profit organization which focuses on improving the quality of life of individuals and families by providing assistance with economic, social and educational enrichment. The Foundation serves area counties, including Bertie, Halifax, Hertford, Gates and Northampton.

After the funds were transferred to the organization, under the leadership of Pamela Chamblee, NCHS-East’s principal, Joan McCullough, assistant principal,   and Shirley Ellsworth, Crystal Everett and Shannon Woodand, 4-H advisers, students were given an opportunity to plan, shop and spend the donated funds wisely to purchase and package gifts for the residents of Hampton Woods Convalescent Center in Jackson. The entire process proved to an educational experience for each of the club members ranging from planning, budgeting, social awareness and civic duty.
