After holiday shopping for Littleton Police Della Batts, Herald Staff Writer LITTLETON— Police Chief Mike Suggs is happy to report that his department will be involved in a little after Christmas shopping since he’s received part of a grant he applied for just over a year ago. The three-year grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety Program will pay for an officer, all of his equipment and a vehicle as well as check point equipment for DWI and drivers license check points. The money for the check point equipment is close to $11,000. Suggs said that he is purchasing an enclosed trailer (to store the equipment), two portable generators and two light sources “to light up where we’re at,” he said, as well as traffic cones and other incidental items. “What makes me feel better is knowing that if this part was approved, then the other part comes through. That part is an officer, which we desperately need. His vehicle, radios and equipment and his salary will be paid 100 percent the first year. The next year they will pay 75 percent, and the next year 50 percent.” The department must have the money spent and reports ready by September 2009. |
