WELDON — Edna Dunston Bailey, 94, loving mother, grandmother and sister, departed this life peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at Liberty Commons in Weldon, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She is in the presence of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Mrs. Bailey was a Roanoke Rapids native, the daughter of the late George Washington Dunston and Elizabeth Johnson Dunston. She was a member of New Testament Christian Church in Roanoke Rapids.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Bailey; her stepmother, Susie Clark; two sons, William Roland Bailey and James Norman Bailey; three grandchildren, Kathryn Dunlow Heustess, Thomas S. Bailey and Emily Kate McDermott; and three sisters, Fannie Mae Fite, Josephine Davis and Bernice Hux.

Mrs. Bailey is survived by four daughters, Lois B. Neville and her husband, Toby, of Littleton, Brenda B. Dunlow and her husband, Ernest, of Roanoke Rapids, Hazel B. Reach and her husband, Charles, of Montevallo, Ala., and Trudy B. McDermott and her husband, Andy, of Roanoke Rapids; three sons, Paul Bailey of Newport News, Va., and Jerry Bailey and his wife, Raye, and Phillip Bailey, all of Roanoke Rapids; four sisters, Dorothy Malone, Mable White, and Helen Letchworth, all of Roanoke Rapids, and Linda Ross of Rocky Mount; 28 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids, which handled the arrangements. They will also receive other times at 101 Easton St., Roanoke Rapids. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, Dec. 31,  at New Testament Christian Church, with Minister Dale Morris officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
