Each of those letters stands for a new way of providing comfort and healing to her clients. If you ask her, she will tell you that the 170 hours of training she received this summer was well worth it as she is now a qualified provider of manual lymphatic drainage and complex decongestive therapy. She can help those suffering from lymphatic drainage problems.
“It took 13 months and travel to four cities to complete the training,” said Grueneich. “But what I want for my clients is for them to have a place where they know they can come for healing. I want them to be healthy, physically and emotionally.”
Grueneich explained that sometimes, particularly in cancer patients, the body’s lymphatic system can fail to work properly, particularly after chemo and radiation therapies, or when there has been surgery. Lymphedema and associated edematous conditions can develop. In layman’s terms, cancer patients frequently develop problems with swelling, especially breast cancer patients. Since 75 percent of the body’s immune system is made up of the lymphatic system other issues may develop as well.
“I use a light touch to open up the congested areas and help restore a proper flow. The treatment is soothing and the results are notable. Sometimes the swelling goes down right away.” Grueneich also uses compressive bandages to help remove fluid during movement until a patient can be fitted with a garment.
“The clients I have are so thrilled to be getting help. They can see improvements and this helps them to get some of their life back. Lymphedema can be very painful.”
Grueneich started her work several years ago with just one massage bed and a dream. She’s built a strong reputation on Lake Gaston for providing healing and comfort for her clients, taking holistic approaches that include comforting sights, sounds and aromas.
She now owns her own facility, located at 167 Stanley Road in Henrico, near Wildwood Nursery, and offers an assortment of massage therapies (including hot stone massage, Swedish and deep tissue and CranioSacral/SomatoEmotional release), facials, pedicures, manicures and waxing. Grueneich and her staff use only the highest quality products and have full and half day packages available.
If you like, you can “get juiced” while you’re there, as she now offers Monovie natural juices to her clients as a great “pick me up” and for nutritional support. And the HemiSync Series of meditational music is available for clients to check out or for purchase. “It affects different hemispheres of the brain,” Grueneich said as she examined the “Cancer Support Series.”
“They’ve mapped the effects of this music on the brain. This one helps to benefit patients with getting positive results from chemotherapy and radiation and it helps them to get a restful, healing sleep.”
Grueneich, who is also a nurse, said that she and her staff are all dedicated to continuing their education in order to provide more healing opportunities for their clients. She said that they hold the utmost concern for their patient’s privacy and work to ensure that their environment is safe and secure.
