WARRENTON — More details have been released in reports from the N.C. Highway Patrol confirming that Christopher Hashan Gay, 20, was driving the car involved in an accident involving another vehicle while in a high speed chase to elude police on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Warrenton.

Gay was involved in the shooting incident with Detective Terry Williams of the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, Jan. 2.

According to Warren County Sheriff Johnny Williams, the incident occurred sometime before noon on Friday. Williams said that several men in a vehicle were driving through town shooting out car windows.

Detective Williams and State Trooper T.L. Settles, who was at the N.C. Department of Transportation on the Boulevard chased Gay, exceeded speeds of 70 mph.

According to the report, Gay was traveling east at a high rate of speed in a 2005 Chevrolet, when he came upon a 2001 Pontiac, driven by Karina Antonia. Antonia is pregnant and was traveling with a young child and was only going 45 mph. Gay pulled out to pass Antonia and clipped her side mirror. Antonia then ran off the road on the left, struck an embankment, overturned, then struck a fence coming to rest in a pasture. Her vehicle then caught fire. Antonia, nor the child in the vehicle were hurt.

At some point, Gay was accosted and shot.  He was taken to Mariah Parham Hospital in Henderson, and has been released. The State Bureau of Investigation will release no further information at this time. The N.C. Highway Patrol was unaware of any charges being filed at the time of the report.
