Amos Bell ‘Big Kid’ Boone

ROANOKE RAPIDS — Amos Bell “Big Kid” Boone, the son of the late Wilbert and Corine Lashley Boone, began his journey with life on Nov. 9, 1928, in Northampton County.

Peacefully, he answered God’s call to eternal rest on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.

He confessed his faith in Christ and joined Quankey Baptist Church and was baptized by the Rev. Joseph Battle on July 21, 2002.

He was united in holy matrimony in 1950 to the late Earlean Fleming and God blessed their union with seven children of which three, Thomas, Terry and David, preceded him in death.

Amos loved to drive truck (human navigational), hunting, joking with his son, Amos Jr., sharing time with his grands and great-grands and interacting with every friendly face in the community.

Those reaming to forever treasure the memories of his life are his sons, Bobby Boone Sr. (Lynette) and Amos Boone Jr. (Evelyn, fiancée); his daughters, Annette Davis (Johnnie) and Muriel Hilliard (Robert); 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; a devoted sister-in-law, Donnie Alston; two brothers, Peter Boone (Candice, special friend) of Gaston and Dennis Boone of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Cecelia Turner of Staten Island, N.Y.; an adopted sister, Lula Mae Garner of Orange Park, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Amos has now been reunited with his sisters, Christine Boone Moore and Louise Boone Scott We love you all and may you all rest in peace and have a blessed reunion.

A visitation will be held from 10  to 11 a.m., with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Quankey Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, with the Rev. Joseph Battle will officiating. Interment will follow in the Boone Family Cemetery in Gaston.

H.D. Pope Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements.
