While sporting an exciting variety of male and female characters, “Hello, Dolly!” calls for a dynamic chorus and dance troupe including a waiters’ chorus which sings the famous title song.

Chorus/dance auditions will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 22. Those auditioning for chorus and dance do not need to bring a prepared audition piece. Those seeking positions in the chorus need to attend the chorus/dance session only.

Auditions for all speaking/singing roles will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Those auditioning for roles need to bring a prepared solo audition of a show tune with accompaniment, and may use songs from “Hello, Dolly!” Auditionees for speaking/singing roles must also attend the chorus/dance audition session at 2 p.m.

The story is based upon Thornton Wilder’s book and play, “The Matchmaker” and follows the scheming matchinations of the title character, Dolly Levi, who arranges suitable marriages for others, and finds the perfect match for herself as well. As a Broadway production, headliners have been a number of stars including Carol Channing, Pearl Bailey and Ginger Rogers. In the 1970s, “Hello, Dolly!” was created for film starring Barbara Streisand.

New faces are always welcome at Lakeland. All are invited to audition to share in bringing this production to life on the Lakeland stage. Anyone unable to audition at the scheduled audition sessions on Feb. 22 should contact Director Laurel Griffith ASAP at 586-7271 to arrange an audition time before that date.
