FAIRVIEW, MINN. — This week it is time for rejoicing for the Dylan Moore family, as he finally is released from the hospital. After four months of intensive treatment, bouts with viruses and ventilators he seems to finally have turned the corner in his recovery. Moore is a 7-year-old with Fanconi Anemia, who required a bone marrow transplant in October. He was expected to stay in the University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital at Fairview for 100 days but numerous complications coupled with the standard problems associated with recovery kept him an additional 22 days.
Moore’s mother, Betsy, wrote in her Web journal, “We have been discharged from the hospital and are spending our first night together as a family since October 2, 2008!!! Wow, that seems so long ago! I have dreamed about this day for many months now. I can’t tell you how excited, terrified, grateful, and surprised I am. Less than two weeks ago, Dylan was on a ventilator. Now, we are all together!”
Betsy said that on Sunday it snowed and Dylan and his dad had a real snowball fight. “Dylan threw a snowball at his dad while he was kicked back in the recliner. And then it was on!! A snowball fight, in the apartment!” Betsy said that though her son had gone through a lot and that it played hard on his nerves, they were starting to see a few glimpses to “the old Dylan trying to break through.”
Moore is still receiving transfusions of platelets and medications. He will require months of therapy to regain his pre-operation strength, but reportedly doctors are amazed at his progress since his last bout with the ventilator.
The family asks for continued prayers from the community. You can monitor Moore’s progress at the Daffodils for Dylan Web site
