Better quality coming with new cell tower to serve Littleton area

Littleton — Chicago-based U.S. Cellular announced that a new 300-foot cell tower will be constructed in Littleton. Company representative Melissa McIntyre confirmed the location in Panacea Springs, just outside Littleton will increase service and network capacity around Littleton and improve connectivity along U.S. Highway 158 between Warrenton and Summit.

It will also improve connectivity along N.C. Highway 4 between Littleton and Hollister. “The tower will complement U.S. Cellular’s statewide network of more than 460 towers. It will take approximately three months to finish the project,” she said. The company said it will send a team of network engineers to drive all over the coverage area to test signal strength and call quality and will listen to customer feedback to determine the best locations for new cell sites.

U.S. Cellular has led the effort to preserve federal support for rural wireless development through Connecting Rural America (www.connectingruralamerica.org), a grassroots coalition of concerned citizens, community leaders and elected officials working for equality in wireless telecommunications, according to its news statement.

Its goal is to provide rural communities with the same access to technology as their urban counterparts.
