ROANOKE RAPIDS — She’s on the road to the Roanoke Rapids Theatre. Dionne Warwick that is. The icon of American music with such hits as  “Do you know the way to San Jose?,” and “This Girl’s in Love with You,” is scheduled to appear, Sunday, April 26.

Warwick is the first of hopefully many national stars brought to the area under  L&M Hospitality LLC. which took over operations and production this month as part of Lafayette Gatling’s lease-purchse of the venue.

Warwick’s career spans four decades. According to her Web site, www.dionnewarwick.info, she received her first Grammy in 1968, and scored a dozen back to back hits from 1963 to 1966.  In 2002 she received a lifetime achievement award from the R&B Foundation.

Also a great humanitarian, she has lead the fight against AIDS since the 1980s, when she served as Ambassador for Health.  In 2002 she was named a global Ambassador for the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization. She is legendary for her work with schools and other organizations that empower and inspire.
