Dawson becomes the 14th member of the board, which governs the medical center, a not-for-profit community-based organization.

“Our region is fortunate to have a top-notch hospital right here in our community,” said Dawson. “Halifax Regional is a partner with other medical facilities and the community to offer our residents excellent healthcare.” She noted that people are living longer and require healthcare services that meet their specific needs.

“We look forward to Evelyn’s contribution to the board,” said Chairman Johnny Draper. “Her extensive service to the community and outstanding business experience will enhance her role on the board.”

A Weldon resident, Dawson holds leadership positions in several community organizations. She is a member of the board of directors of the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Weldon STEP program, Halifax Horizons and Connect Inc. She also is a member of the Advisory Board of Citizens Community Bank.

Before establishing BriteSmilz in 2003, Dawson worked 30 years for the Halifax County Department of Social Services and three years for the Cooperative Extension Service.

She is a graduate of North Carolina Central University and earned her Master’s in Education from East Carolina University. She has been married to Melvin Dawson for 35 years. They have two sons and a 2-year-old granddaughter.
