Harlan Lavern ‘Hike’ Heikens

COURTLAND, Va. — Harlan Lavern “Hike” Heikens, 78, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at the McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, Va.

He was born in Wellsburg, Iowa, a son of the late Harry and Dena Heikens. Hike was a United States Air Force veteran, former owner of Heikens Well Company and a member of the Suffolk Moose Lodge. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Pearl Schick Heikens; three sons, Randy Heikens of Franklin, Va., Timmy Heikens and wife, Ann, of Courtland and Robert Heikens of Nags Head; one sister, Beverly H. Hatcher; and three brothers, Marvin, Don, and Jim Heikens, all of Iowa; and four grandchildren, Racheal, Dillon, Desty and Camryn Heikens.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday March 25, at Wright Funeral Home  in Franklin, which is handling the arrangements.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 26, at Grace Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dennis D. Buchholz officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Southampton Memorial Park.

The family suggests memorials be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 25280 New Market Road, Courtland VA 23837.
