Devotion hour was led by Eunice Smith, with a song, ‘Yeild Not to Tempation.’ Scripture was by Eunice Smith Pslam 95 1-7, and prayer by president Putney and song ‘Their not a friend’ followed by the Pledge Allegience and ‘My Country Tis of Thee.’
Katie Harris led roll call and the minutes read by Secretary Harris— minutes were received as read. No one among the group was on the sick list. We are asked to pray for the sick and shut-in, and also visit the sick when ever you can.
There was a new arrival as the club welcomed a new member.
March and April birthdays will be celebrated on the 15th of April.
The guest speaker for Wednesday was Pat Peele talking about breast cancer. Everyone enjoyed the speaker and she brought some good information to the group.
Progressive Seniors
The Progressive Senior club met for breakfast and more on Tuesday, March 31.
After eating sausage biscuits, juice and coffee as a fundraiser for the club, Gladys Wells, president, welcomed everyone.
Our opening song was ‘Victory in Jesus,’ accompanied by Libby Myrick. Helen Watson found the door prize.
David Smith from the Presbyterian Church gave the opening prayer and was in charge of the program. He spoke of the triathlon which was held yesterday, April 4, as he was to compete in the event.
Frances Crawford read the poem, ‘Positive Faith.’
The announcements came from Kelly Manning:
April 9 — Easter Egg Luncheon and hunt at 11 a.m. at T.J. Davis Recreation Center
May 20 — Aging Expo at Kirkwood Adams, registration can be done at the door
Mayflower luncheon status — Registration is underway. The deadline is May 15.
Walking program — Kelly has cards for recording monthly walks for participants
The next trip to Stockyard is May 8 and registration is underway.
The prayer list includes: George Palmer, Joe Parrish, Jeff Smith, Frank Causey, Jeff White, Peggy & Kelly Turner, Peggy Heaphey and Myrtle Nance.
The registration gift went to Janie Riddle. The club made $38 on the sausage-biscuit breakfast at the March 31 meeting. Next week Alice Delbridge will give the devotion.
The final song was, ‘God be With You,’ and the meeting adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
Halifax Northampton AARP
The Halifax Northampton American Association of Retired Persons Chapter 2885 met Thursday, March 5, in the Jo Story Senior Center with Raymond Hayward presiding. Opening formalities included: ‘The Pledge of Allegiance,’ the opening prayer, and President Hayward’s introduction of guest speaker Judith Moss, of the Wilson AARP Chapter.
There was mention of this year’s Senior Games Exposition to involve competition in literature, art, painting, poetry, heritage dancing, badminton, tennis, track and field competitions.

The last meeting held for the Halifax Northampton AARP seniors was held April 2, at the Jo Story Senior Center, where Michael Felt, director of Halifax County Social Services was the guest speaker.
