ROANOKE RAPIDS — Dorothy Wilmouth Lacks, 79, of 1104 Georgia Ave., Apt. A, Roanoke Rapids,  died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Lacks was a native of Charlotte County, Va., the daughter of the late Morgan Reese Wilmouth and Pearl Lean Lacks Wilmouth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Columbus Branch Lacks; her daughter, Carolyn McKay; and a sister, Agnes Wilmouth.

Mrs. Lacks is survived by her son, Billy Reese Lacks and his wife, Eraina, of Crewe, Va.; four grandsons, Douglas E. Jackson III and his wife, Michelle, of Roanoke Rapids, Chad Reese Lacks of Crewe, Christopher Charles McKay and his special friend, Lesley Ferranto, of Keysville, Va., and Brian Kessler Lacks of Crewe; four great-grandchildren, Jennifer Langley and her husband, Gene Jr., Brandi Jackson and Zachary Jackson and Collin McKay; two great-great-grandchildren, Lil Gene Langley III and Ashton Langley; three sisters, Mildred W. Moss of Richmond Va., Frances W. Lacks of Keysville and Erma Jean Duffey of Richmond; two brothers, Morgan R. Wilmouth Jr. and Jimmy Lee Wilmouth, both of Richmond; and special friends, Elwin and Pat Kessler of Smithfield, Va.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where funeral services will be held in the chapel at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 9, with Rev. Margaret Horrell officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 8:30 p.m., and other times at the home. 

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 10, at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Farmville, with the Rev. Randy Martin officiating.
