Louvenia Magee Richards, a Northampton County native, will be the guest speaker at the annual Halifax County Missionary Union Banquet at 6 p.m., Saturday, April 11, at the Kirkwood Adams Community Center.

Richards an educator who has received much recognition and many awards for her exemplary service to children and to mission work. She graduated from Gumberry High School and received a Bachelor of Science from Elizabeth City State University. She received her Master of Arts and  Ed.D from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She has also studied at numerous other institutions of higher learning including Catholic University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina Central University, Trinity University, the University of the District of Columbia, Prince George’s Community College and Bowie State University.

She is a co-founder of His in Service, and she is an official representative of New Missions, both of which are missions, serving, helping ministries. Richards has served in foreign missions for 16 years. Her work has taken her to Central Asia, East and West Africa, Eastern Europe and South America. 

Richards is a member of Mt. Jezreel Baptist Church in Silver Spring, Md., and is also under pastoral care of St. Peters Missionary Baptist Church in Weldon.  She resides in Bowie, Md., and is the grandmother of two grandsons and one granddaughter.

Representatives from churches in the Halifax County Missionary Union are vying for the title of queen or king of the HCMU and one will be crowned at the banquet, which is held each year to support the objectives of the Halifax County Missionary Union which also include scholarships for deserving students.
