Choanoke Area Development Association of NC Inc. is accepting applications for contractors in four categories. The first is licensed North Carolina General Contractors for the Single Family Rehabilitation Program. All contracted work must meet the more stringent of local housing codes or HUD’s Section 8 Housing Quality Standards and the NCHFA Housing Rehabilitation Standards and meet the requirements of HUD’s final regulation on lead-based paint hazards published September 15, 1999 in 24 CFR 35 in the Federal Register. Contractor’s must also be familiar with automated pressure diagnostics tools such as blower door and duct tests in order to achieve maximum energy efficiency.

The second category is contractors for the Urgent Repair Program. Contractors for this program do not have to be licensed general contractors due to the limited cost for the emergency repairs unless the scope of work requires plumbers, electricians, HVAC Contractors or others trades that must be licensed. All work must meet or exceed code requirements.

The third category is the Heating Appliance Repair and Replacement Program. This program requires that work be performed by licensed HVAC, plumbing and electrical contractors.

The fourth category is insulation contractors for the CADA Weatherization Program. Contractors must have the capacity to insulate attics, walls and floors, and provide evidence of trained staff or be willing to train staff to meet certifications and agree to a minimum of 40 hours of annual continuous education for staff assigned to work with CADA.

All interested contractors may contact Marion Williams at 252-539-4155, extension 521. Contractors that submit a completed application will be required to attend a workshop before bidding and must provide proof of required insurances prior to beginning work. Applications must be submitted by May 1. The TDD number is 1(800) 735-2962.
