Burrell, a native North Carolinian, was reared in Hempstead, N.Y.  In November 2001, he became the youngest pastor to lead the congregation at First Baptist Church, Weldon. Under his leadership the church has seen tremendous growth, including but not limited to, the purchasing of property, addition of ministries and the establishment of the First Community Development Corporation (FCDC).  He serves as the chief executive officer and executive director of FCDC.  He earned a bachelor’s from Long Island University in Communications and Broadcasting.  He holds a master’s in Divinity from Shaw University and will begin doctoral studies this fall.  He is the son of Brenda Burrell and the late Quientrell L. Burrell Sr.

He is affiliated with numerous civic organizations and currently serves as the chairman of the Young Pastors/Ministers Division and board member of the General Baptist State Convention.  He is a gifted preacher, accomplished musician and aspiring author.

The baccalaureate service is a multi-faith occasion of Thanksgiving and celebration for the completion of high school, undergraduate and graduate careers.  The concept of baccalaureates dates back to 1432 at Oxford University and has continually evolved over the years.  WHS’s program will be highlighted by performances and the participation of members of the graduating class.

The public is invited.  For information, call Linda Wiggins at 536-4829.
