Brawley Girls in Science celebrate Earth Day

HALIFAX — Brawley Middle School’s Girls in Science celebrated Earth Day on April 22 by beautifying Brawley’s campus and also entering Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park’s Earth Day Recyclable Art Contest directed by Operations Manager Ali Lubbock.

The students chose the theme “Planet Green” as they made new notebook covers for their old Girl’s in Science notebooks.

First place winner was Deja Thompson, who received nine wooden carved pencil sharpeners and a flower bag; second place winner was Nia McDaniel, who received a book titled “Birds: Educational Games and Activities For Kids of All Ages” by Waterford Press; and third place winner was Shanteqwa Moody, who received a turtle key chain.Teacher Tracy Williams is the director for Girl in Science and Librarian Jackie Ruffin volunteered to organize the preparation for the contest.
