Memorial Day services planned

Roanoke Valley Veteran’s Center

The Roanoke Valley Veteran’s Center will hold a Memorial Day service at 2 p.m., Monday, May 25, at the center located at  Becker Village Mall.

Halifax County Commissioner J. Rives Manning will be the speaker. The ceremony will memorialize the deceased veterans and honor living veterans and those now serving. The public is invited to the service. Music following the ceremony will be provided by the Roanoke River Band. Admission is free, however donations will be accepted for support of the Veteran’s Center.

Cedarwood Cemetery

Local veterans encourage the community to come out and show respect by participating in the annual Memorial Day service at 10 a.m., Monday, May 25, at Cedarwood Cemetery.

The service will include special music, a memorial of our fallen heroes and keynote speaker Lt. Col. George Sterling, US Special Forces.

The program will include time for the public to place their individual memorial if they so desire.

Flags will be placed at the grave sites immediately surrounding the memorial. The public is welcome to pick up flags at the U.S. Army recruiting station if you want to place a flag on your Veteran’s grave.

Courthouse Square in Jackson

Northampton County will hold a Memorial Day service at 11 a.m., Monday, May 25, in the Courthouse Square in Jackson. The speaker will be retired Charles Harris, U.S. Air Force. The public is invited.
