HALIFAX — Mr. Joseph Lee Parrish, 65, of Aurelian Springs Road, Halifax, died Friday, May 29, 2009, at Carrol S. Roberson Hospice Center in Fayetteville.

Mr. Parrish was born July 28, 1943, in Halifax County, the son of the late Frank B. Parrish and Helen Harrison Parrish. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, W.J. Hobbs. He was a plasterer and sheet rock hanger for many years. He loved music and played the guitar. He was a member of Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Barkley Parrish; his daughter, Donna Parrish Tractor of Texarkana, Ark.; two stepsons, Olya T. Green and his wife, Marie, and Thomas Green and his wife, Stephanie, all of Roanoke Rapids; his brothers, Freddie Parrish of Roanoke Rapids and Sherman Parrish and his wife, Joan, of Shelby; his grandson, Philip Tractor; his stepgrandchildren, Steven Taylor, Michael Taylor, Timothy Taylor, Lindsey Green, Kavin Green, Joshua Green, Katie Edwards and Aiden Nicholas Wright; his nieces and nephews, Holly Pegram and her husband, Tom, and their children, Paige and Patrick, Tim Parrish and his wife, Stephanie, Debbie Morris and her husband, Michael, and their children, Garrett and Grant, Lisa Dickens and her husband, Edward, and their children, Casey and Lizbeth, Ginny Finch and her husband, Lloyd, and their children, Joseph Lambert, Blayden Finch, and Michelle Tanner and her husband, Larry, and their son, Ryan; his sister-in-law, Sarah Rose and her husband, Lester, and their son, Lester Ray; and a great-nephew, Justin Hess; and many special friends, including Kent Spencer of Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, June 1, at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, which is handling the arrangements, with Rev. Tony Smith officiating.

A visitation will be held after the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1468 American Legion Road, Roanoke Rapids NC 27870.
