Martha ‘Puss’ Barnes Fortt

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Mrs. Martha "Puss" Barnes Fortt of Newport News, Va, and formerly of Weldon, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Sentara Complex in Hampton, Va.

A native of North Carolina, she moved to Virginia in 1958,  and became a dietician for the Veterans Administration in Hampton where she worked until retiring in 1989. She received numerous awards for outstanding performance and several Valuable Employee awards during her tenure.

She is  survived by her daughter, Glorius F. Bristol (Allan) of Queens, N.Y.; her sister: Betty Toole of Hampton; son-in-law: Percell Scott of Newport News; sister-in-law: Maliscy F. Davis of Weldon.

A viewing will be held from 1 to 7 p.m., Thursday, June 4, at Cofield Mortuary in Weldon which is handling the arrangements.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 5,  at St. Peters Baptist Church, Weldon, with the Rev. Willie M. Greene officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery
