The United States Achievement Academy announced that brother and sister, Jeff and  Beth White of Jackson, have been recognized  for academic achievements as United States National Honor Student Award winners. Jeff, who graduated from Northeast Academy, and Beth who attends Northeast Academy,  will appear in the United States Achievement Academy’s Official yearbook which is published nationally.

Jeff and Beth are the children of Frank and Rae White of Jackson. They are the grandchildren of Lois White of Jackson.

Rose awarded Master of Public Policy

Rebecca Rose was awarded the Master of Public Policy from Duke University’s Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy at a graduate hooding ceremony on May 9. The Sanford Institute was created in 1971 and is named for its founder, the late North Carolina governor, United States senator and Duke President Terry Sanford. The graduate program is ranked among the top 10 policy analysis programs in the United States. Rose is a graduate of Roanoke Rapids High School and Wake Forest University. She is the daughter of Margaret Rose and the granddaughter of Mary Barnett of Roanoke Rapids. She has accepted a position with the Government Accountability Office in Washington, D.C.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity officers

The Omega Pis Phi Fraternity Inc. officers for 2009-2010 are: Basileus, Thomas W. Alston; vice basileus, Samuel Watson Jr.; keeper of records and seal, Brian Hopkins; assistant keeper of records, Thomas McGeachy; keeper of finance, Albert Bennett; assistant keeper of finance, Darrick  Wood; chaplain, Melvin Garner; chapter reporter, Jerry Simmons; and keeper of Peace, W.M. “Shell” Joyner.

Martin makes dean’s list

President Caroline Whitson of Columbia College recently announced students  named to the president’s and dean’s lists for the spring semester 2009. Sarah Caroline Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher R. Martin of Jackson, was among the students making the dean’s list. To make dean’s list a student must have a grade point average of 3.5. Columbia College, located in Columbia, S.C., is a private liberal arts women’s college with a legacy of developing women leaders with the courage commitment confidence and competence to build a better world.
