Nine Belmont students receive honorable mention in Duck Stamp competition

 This year the North Carolina Federal Junior Duck Stamp Program continued its partnership with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and the East Carolina Wildfowl Guild to host the competition. Jerry’s Artarama continued its sponsorship of the program and will be providing the top prizes.

 Four hundred and eighty-six students participated in this year’s competition. Nine Belmont students, coached by Matthew Chambers as their art teacher, finished with an honorable Mention.

Kellie Jones, of Jack Britt High School in Fayetteville, won the North Carolina Federal Junior Duck Stamp art competition.

The Federal Junior Duck Stamp Conservation Design program is an integrated art and science curriculum developed to teach environmental science and habitat conservation. The first place national winning design is used to create a Federal Junior Duck Stamp each year. Proceeds from the sale of Junior Duck stamps (which cost $5) support conservation education by providing awards and scholarships for the students, teachers and schools participating in the program.
