Valley high school seniors recognized

First Presbyterian Church of Roanoke Rapids recently recognized its high school seniors.

Ben Patterson and Josh Dillard were awarded the First Presbyterian Church Scholarship to help them get started at college.

Patterson graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School and was active with the Key Club, the Monogram Club and was a member of the National Honor Society, cross country team, track team and the swim team.  In his spare time he worked as a lifeguard for the Roanoke Rapids Recreation Department (he is a certified Red Cross lifeguard) and has served as a volunteer for Wildlife Habitat and Angel’s Closet as well as being active in his church.  He will attend N.C. state in the Fall.

Dillard graduated from Halifax Academy as Salutatorian in his class. He was a member of the Senior Beta Honor Society, captain of the swim team and a member of the Quiz Bowl team. He has served as the senior patrol leader and troop guide and is currently the troop guide for Boy Scout Troop 411. He has just met the requirements for his Eagle Scout. He sings in the First Presbyterian adult  choir. He has received an appointment to West Point Military Academy where he reported for cadet basic training on June 29 in West Point, N.Y.

Patterson is the son of Bob and Lisa Patterson of Roanoke Rapids. Dillard is the son of Jeff and Diana Dillard of Littleton.
