Valley senior update by Special to the Daily HeraldROANOKE RAPIDS — The Chaloner seniors did their regular gathering on July 1, at the Jo Store Center with President Arizona Putney presiding. Devotion was led by Bessie Davis, the opening song was “There’s a Bright Side Somewhere,” and scripture was also led by Bessie Davis, including Psalms 2: 1-4. Prayer by Putney, followed by a song “Jesus on the Main Line,” then the Pledge Allegiance, and “My Country ‘Tis of Thee.” The president greeted everyone at the meeting. The roll call was given by Secretary Katie Harris, the sick report revealed Alice Evon had cataract surgery. The minutes were given by Katie Harris and they were received as read. The seniors welcomed a new member, Catherine Lockly of Roanoke Rapids. The members are making arrangements to visit an orphan home in Oxford and there will be a shopping trip scheduled for July 16. The door prize winner was Doris Weaver followed by the closing prayer. |
