Forty-one kids of all ages came out to the three day camp this week to learn the basic fundamentals of the game. Each day beginning at 9 a.m. the campers go through various stations set up in the gym to perform drills to sharpen their game. Since Thursday was the final day of camp, Bell decided to let the kids showcase what they learned all week by playing four live games in front of a crowd of family and friends. The games were fast paced and defiantly did not lack all out hustle and intensity from the kids on the court. Watching from the sidelines, Bell pointed out a few campers who have been coming since he started his camp three years ago and noted he has seen a lot of improvement in the regulars.
A successful local AAU basketball coach, Bell brought back a few former, local players to serve as camp counselors this season. Bell’s daughters, Gara and Cara, who played college hoops at Campbell, helped out this week along with former Northwest Halifax players Ervin Brinkley, Brittney Washington and Raven McCleod.
