Roy Macon Harlow Jr.

ROANOKE RAPIDS — Mr. Roy Macon Harlow Jr., 78, of 2091 W. 10th St., Roanoke Rapids, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at his home, after battling Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Mr. Harlow was a Sergeant First Class in the Army and was a true veteran of the Korean War, having gone the day after it started on June 25, 1950, and he stayed in Korea until November of 1951. He was owner/operator of Roy’s T.V. Service since 1956. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Macon Harlow and Molly Pointer Harlow; and his sisters, Virginia Bliss and Lucille Aycock.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Peggy Harlow; his sons, Kenneth Wayne Harlow and wife, Sonya, and Roy Steven Harlow of Gastonia; his daughter, Joy Faithful and her husband, Mike, of Maryland; a brother, James “Jim” Harlow; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 9, at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service in Roanoke Rapids, which is handling the arrangements, with Wayne White officiating. The family will receive friends after the service on Thursday and other times at the home.

    Just a belated note to express sympathy. Mom and I visited with Macon several years ago and it was nice to re-establish family ties. May you find peace and comfort.
