Shakespeare’s classic comedy of love and silliness, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” descends into Lakeland Theatre Company today, bringing a world of supernatural delights to our audiences.

The show, with more than 25 young people participating in their first-ever Shakespearean production, will amaze and amuse everyone with its hilarious twists and turns, and the ultimate happy ending will thrill you, especially when the “players” present their play before the Duke and Duchess!

Shows are set for doday, July 9, and will run on July 10 and 17  at 8 p.m.  Matinees will be presented at 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays, July 11 and 18, and Sundays, July 12 and 19. Prices are $15 for adults, $8 for students and children. Come out and support the young summer workshop participants as they display their theatrical talents at Lakeland. Monday, July 13-Aug.14

Carl Galie Jr. of Winston-Salem will exhibit his nature photo prints and photography books of the Roanoke River and other North Carolina wildlife areas July 13 through Aug. 14, at the Halifax County Art Council’s Gallery at 1027 Roanoke Ave. A Sip & See for Galie will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 13. The artist and author will be selling his beautiful vibrant nature photos and his books about his photographic journeys spent over a period of years as he captured the unique landscapes of wild North Carolina.

Wednesday, July 15

The T.J. Davis Recreation Center will hold “Splash Fest 2009” from 1 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, at the outdoor pool.  Come have some fun in the sun with music, games and giveaways. Free admission for kids 6-15 (parents need to accompany children under 9). For information, call 252-533-2850.
