one like the call on Saturday — a husband and wife dead.

The wife, 34-year-old Catherine Flores, died of multiple gunshot wounds to

the head, and the husband, 41-year-old Jesus Flores, died of a single

self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Halifax County Sheriff's Office

investigators said.

Lt. Bobby Martin said this morning there were calls to the Scotland Neck

area in the past, although he didn't know the exact number. "I don't think

we got a call to the extent anyone had been arrested. I don't think there

had been an active ex parte order placed," he said.

No one knows what the couple was arguing about when Mr. Flores decided to

shoot his wife with a small-caliber handgun and then turn it on himself,

Martin said.

A family member found the couple dead Saturday morning. Two of their four

children were home when the murder-suicide occurred but they did not witness

it, Martin said.

The other two children were away with their aunt.

Lt. George Evans said in a news release the sheriff's office received a call

around 6:55 a.m. Saturday a possible murder-suicide occurred at 67 Access

Road in Scotland Neck.

When deputies arrived they found that Jesus had shot Catherine. He then

turned the gun on himself, taking his own life, Evans said in the news

release.

Maj. Bruce Temple said further investigation revealed a history of domestic

violence between the couple.
